Three men were arrested after a car was stolen during a test drive in Peterborough.

At approximately 11pm last night, Wednesday May 25, a Hampton resident reported that their Nissan Micra had been stolen after two ‘prospective buyers’ failed to return the vehicle after a test drive.

Observations for the vehicle were passed to officers patrolling across the city, and within 40 minutes of the theft being reported, the car had been located and three males were arrested in connection with the theft.

The driver was also found to be over the prescribed alcohol limit and also arrested for drink driving.

Two men, aged 18 and 23 from Peterborough, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. They both remain in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

A 20-year-old man from Peterborough, who was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, has been released with no further action.

The vehicle was subsequently returned to the owner, only an hour and 40 minutes after reporting it stolen.
