A devastated Peterborough pre-school was broken into late last week with thieves making off with money, a laptop and a tablet.
The Southfields Community Pre-School in Southfields Avenue, Stanground, is reeling after the theft which is believed to have taken place on Friday evening.
Staff at the pre-school based at the Southfield Community Centre were having to wait for payment after £600 was taken by the thieves who appear to have gained entry through a window.
The break-in was discovered on Sunday and has left staff wondering why thieves would decide to target a community centre to make money.
Chair of the pre-school Lauren Broughton said: “I was devastated. You do not think it’s going to happen to yourself. It’s a really small pre-school so you would not think someone would break in.
“That’s a huge amount of money. That was the staff’s wages. The manager was going to do the wages today.”
The pre-school, which looks after more than 20 children, was able to open on Monday.
But Lauren is hoping that people might have seen the theft or someone walking off with a laptop and tablet.
She added: “A lot of people are usually walking about. They could have seen someone acting suspiciously around there.”
