Teenager killed in Thorney collision

A 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash in Thorney on Friday night (January 22.)

Emma Cockerill, (16), of New Cut, Thorney, was in collision with a car travelling southbound along New Cut at about 5.25pm.

It is believed Emma and her friend, who was not injured, were walking along the road when the incident happened. It is believed the collision involved a Fiat Doblo.

The teenager was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge but sadly died on Saturday (January 23).

Photographs, balloons and flowers have been left at the side of the road where the youngster died.

Eye and Thorney ward councillor David Sanders said: “It is so tragic to hear about this. She had her whole life ahead of her. Condolences go to her friends and family.
