A teenager who claims she was raped had boasted she was going to sleep with a Peterborough businessman’s pal because he looked like hip hop star Akon, the Old Bailey heard.
The girl claims 32-year-old Manase Motaung, known as Naz, attacked her at a drinking session hosted by his pal, restaurant owner Mohammed Khubaib, (43).
Khubaib is accused of grooming vulnerable girls as young as 12 for sex, luring them in with cash, tobacco, flowers, and McDonald’s Happy Meals.
Karim Khalil QC, defending Motaung, likened the girl, who had just turned 16, to Pinocchio and claimed she had laughed and joked with her pals after the alleged attack.
Mr Khalil told the jury: “Rather like Pinocchio’s nose, the story is growing in the telling.”
He said the girl had said she was going to have sex with Motaung, and then did. Mr Khalil said: “That’s not rape.”
Mr Khalil said the girl made the comments to her friend in the bathroom before the alleged attack.
He said: “This statement of intent showed clarity of thought and a deliberate course of conduct she set for herself.
“This is part of what I’m going to call a cluster bomb under this whole count and the same for the rest of the indictment as well.”
He said the girl’s claim to have been ‘out of it’ when she had sex with Motaung contrasted heavily with her account of what happened later.
“They were laughing about the event that had just occurred,” he said.
“Acknowledging that she had sex with Naz and she could remember and she knew it had happened.
“They were joking and laughing about it.”
The court has heard a photo was taken when the girl was having sex with Motaung by her pal during the alleged attack.
“I said to her do you agree the person on top is in charge and she agreed”, said Mr Khalil.
“I suggested in the photo she was the person that was on top, and if her story was true, she would have denied she was the person on top.
“Quick as a flash she said I was told no one had that photograph.”
Mr Khalil reminded the jury that the girl had walked out twice during her evidence after refusing to answer the questions.
“I’m sorry I have to make this address about the evidence of a person when it’s so obviously woefully short of being true”, he added.
Letting agent Khubaib, who also owned Peterborough’s ‘Zaika’ restaurant, is accused of grooming young girls to be used for sex by him and his friends.
The prosecution allege he enticed in vulnerable girls and drove them to properties around Cambridgeshire where they were plied with booze.
The girls would then be used for the sexual pleasure and satisfaction of himself and any other adult who was with him, it is claimed.
Khubaib, of Cambridge Avenue, Peterborough, denies nine counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation, and one count of raping a 14-year-old girl.
Motaung of Grange Road, Peterborough, denies seven counts of trafficking a child for sexual exploitation and one charge of rape.
The offences were allegedly committed between 2007 and 2013.
The pair were earlier cleared of two trafficking charges on the instruction of Judge Peter Rook QC.
The trial continues.
