Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Ravensthorpe last week.

The 18-year-old was walking from the Hampton Court shops through to Westwood Park at about 5.50pm on Wednesday (December 9) when he was approached by a teenage boy who asked him for a cigarette.

The victim said he did not smoke and went on his way, walking through a cut leading to Mountbatten Way when he heard footsteps behind him and was suddenly forced to the floor.

The victim was beaten around the head before demands were made for him to hand over his mobile phone and money.

The offenders, believed to be a white 16-year-old boy wearing dark clothing, and one other, were unsuccessful in their attempts to steal the items.

Detective Constable Sarah Phillips said: “This was a very traumatic experience for the victim who is now recovering from his injuries at home after receiving treatment in hospital.

“I believe there were a few people in the area of the Hampton Court shops around the time of the incident and I would urge them to contact police if they know who is responsible for this vicious attack.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
