The large knife was discovered by children playing in the Watergall area and is to be taken into Thorpe Wood Police Station.

It follows the discovery of a samurai-style sword in Manton, Bretton, near a children’s play area, on Bank Holiday Monday (August 27) by Simon Bates.

Simon told the Peterborough Telegraph he had seen a youth bending down in the bush earlier in the day while walking his dog, and when he returned that lunchtime he discovered the sword in the same bush.

He said he was disappointed the police had not come out to collect the weapon after calling the force about the discovery.

A PCSO has now came to collect the sword.
