Second Peterborough allotment site targeted by thieves

A second allotment site in Peterborough has suffered multiple break-ins with hand tools stolen from sheds.

Thieves have targeted Bifield in Orton Goldhay at least three times in July, stealing items from multiple plots.

It follows news that plots in Malborne Way, Orton Malborne, were targeted nine times over 11 days from July 11 with lawnmowers, a tiller and a chainsaw all taken.

Police were called at about 11.30am on July 9 to reports of the Bifield allotments being broken into.

It is believed unknown offenders gained access to the allotment site before accessing two unlocked sheds.

Nothing was stolen, however it was also reported that many other sheds had been entered.

On July 21 police were called to the site at just before 10am to reports of a burglary.

It is believed between 4pm on July 20 and 8am on July 21 offenders broke into a shed on one of the plots by breaking the door.

A lock on a storage unit within the shed had also been broken and a box containing various hand tools stolen.

It was reported that offenders had also broken into sheds and stolen items from about eight or nine other plots within the allotment.

A police spokeswoman said no arrests have been made at present.
