Wednesday, 9am: The post-mortem on two bodies found in a fire-damaged car near March is due to take place today.

The male and female, who have not yet been named, were discovered in the back of a black BMW on a beet pad off Floods Ferry Road.

It was reported to police by a member of public on Saturday shortly after 11am.

Formal identification will not take place until late tomorrow and should there be the need for an inquest, this would be opened and adjourned on Friday.

Police have not commmented on the circumstances behind the deaths, including the possibility of suicide, only to say they were not being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters from March and Chatteris were called to the scene at 11.48am to reports of a car which had been on fire, but was no longer alight.

A spokeswoman for the service said there was fire damage inside the car.

A spokeswoman for the police said yesterday: “We were called to reports of concern for two people in a vehicle just after 11am on Saturday at Flood’s Ferry, March.

“Officers attended and two people were confirmed dead at the scene. The deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner.”
