Posh fans sentenced following disorder at Peterborough United vs Scunthorpe United match

Darrell Scott, 21, of Willesby Road in Spalding, was arrested on November 28 at Glanford Park in Scunthorpe by Humberside Police.

Scott was removed from the ground during the game due to his behaviour, however his conduct deteriorated while he was being escorted off the premises by stewards and police officers, and he was later arrested for being drunk at a football match.

Christopher Birkitt, 26, of Hereward Road, also in Spalding, was also arrested on November 28 at the Scunthorpe United ground.

As Scott was being ejected from the ground Birkitt began remonstrating with officers and stewards, before pushing them as they continued to remove Scott. He was arrested for assault.

Scott was sentenced to a three-year football banning order and received fines of £500 at Scunthorpe Magistrates’ Court on December 17.

Birkitt was sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid work and received fines of more than £200 at the same court on Monday (January 11).

A further hearing will take place at Scunthorpe Magistrates’ Court with regards to a football banning order application for Birkitt.

PC Mark Wood said: “Scott will no longer be able to attend any football matches and will have specific conditions around Peterborough United games.

“He will also have to surrender his passport during Euro 2016 and will have reporting conditions while the tournament is being played.

“This goes to show that this type of behaviour at football matches will not be tolerated. The football banning order is a positive step forwards to making football matches a safer place for all fans.”
