Police are warning residents about a man in Werrington asking for money to pay people working on his boiler.

Police Community Support Officer Martha Hurley said: “At approximately 7.55pm and 8.10pm this evening (Thursday, October 8) a male knocked at an address in Sutton Court and then Ploverly in an attempt to gain money.

“He asks for cash to pay VAT to the men currently working on his boiler as they refuse to do any more till they get it.

“He says his wife is not home till late and he cannot ask neighbours as they do not speak English.

“A thorough search was carried out by officers. He is described as white, in his 50s, short greying or light brown hair wearing a blue or grey jumper and jeans. He was carrying a scrunched up plastic bag in his hand.

“If you become aware of this happening again please do not give any money and please contact the police immediately on 101.”
