Police are searching for two men following an attempted murder at an address in Eyrescroft, Bretton, late on Tuesday evening (Tuesday, September 8).
The victim, a man in his 30s, suffered serious but not life-threatening head, back and foot injuries.
He was able to make it to Thorpe Wood Police Station to report the attack, and was then taken to Peterborough City Hospital by ambulance for treatment shortly after midnight.
A police spokesman said a gunshot was discharged in the attack but did not hit the victim.
Two men, believed to be involved in the incident, are still outstanding and police are asking for the public’s help in locating them.
Detective Inspector Dan Pawson, investigating, said: “I would like to reassure the local community that we believe this to be an isolated incident and there is not deemed to be any risk to the wider community.
“I am appealing to those who were in the area at the time of the incident and who may have seen or heard anything to contact us immediately. I believe someone in the local community knows why this happened.”
One man who lives on the street, who asked not to be named, said: “There were a few police cars in the street at about 1am.
“I didn’t hear any gun shots, but there was a lot of shouting going on.
“It is generally a quiet area, so it is surprising for something like this to have happened.”
Another man said: “I did not see anything, but people have been talking about a shooting in the area.
“If it did happen, it is a shock.”
A woman who lives near where police tape was placed added: “It is frightening when something like this happens on your door step.”
