Police made the discovery at Stokesay Court, Longthorpe, after arresting a 23-year-old man on suspicion of assault this morning (Tuesday, June 21).

A bomb disposal team were called by police to the scene to assist them.

The discovery of what appears to be explosives is not being linked to terrorism with a Cambridgeshire police spokeswoman stating that it is being treated as an “isolated incident.”

She added: “Officers attended an address in Stokesay Court, Longthorpe, at about 11am this morning following reports of a domestic incident the previous night.

“A 23-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.

“While at the address, officers located what they believed to be hand-made explosives, and called the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) for assistance.

“A cordon has been put in place and the surrounding property evacuated.”
