Peterborough woman who was jailed after drugs were found in '˜intimate' search loses appeal

Shannon Louise Slater, 19, of Wellington Street, had over 18 grams of heroin and more than 16 grams of cocaine hidden inside her vagina.

The Class A drugs were contained in a condom, which a medic discovered after her arrest last October.

She admitted possessing the drugs with intent to supply and was jailed for 15 months at Cambridge Crown Court in January.

Rejecting an appeal against the sentence yesterday (Tuesday), Lady Justice Rafferty said Slater knew exactly what she was doing.

The Court of Appeal heard Slater was in a car with another woman and three men when they were stopped by police on October 13.

The other woman had drugs hidden in her private parts, but Slater refused to let officers conduct an ‘intimate’ search.

But the next day, a doctor found the condom, complete with 131 wraps of drugs secreted inside.

She said she did what she did because she was scared of a person, who she named, but whose identity was not revealed in court.

Yesterday, her lawyers argued that the sentence she received for her role as a ‘drugs mule’ was far too long.

But Lady Justice Rafferty, sitting with Mr Justice Wyn Williams and Judge Peter Collier QC, rejected the argument.

‘This young woman knew exactly what she was doing and chose to do it,’ she said.

The appeal was dismissed.
