Dwayne Neil, a serving prisoner at HMP Peterborough, launched the attack on 20 September. He is currently serving a 50-month sentence for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent back in 2015.

The 34-year-old went into the wing of the prison at just after 2pm and told the victim, who he had had disagreements with before, that he wanted to fight him.

The offence took place in a staff toilet on a wing which should have been locked.

Neil refused to be interviewed regarding the matter but was later served a postal requisition charging him with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) with intent.

He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing and was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday (4 November), where he was handed three months in prison to be served concurrently to his existing sentence.

DC Robin Gray, who investigated, said: “This was a nasty and savage attack which must have been horrific for the victim.

“I hope this case highlights that we will do all we can to bring those who assault others so viciously to justice.”
