Piles of rubbish including household waste and sofas have been left on Storey’s Bar Road in the east of the city, blocking part of the road.
The site has been one of the worst areas for flytipping in Peterborough for several years now, and Peterborough MP Paul Bristow, who recently called for more action to be taken against fly tippers in a speech in Parliament, has called for more to be done to clamp down on the problem.

“Storey’s Bar Road and other fen roads are common hot spots for criminals who dump rubbish in and around our City.
“I think a few police patrols and maybe conveniently placed CCTV, even if for a temporary period, would demonstrate as a City we are not going to tolerate this anymore. Rural flytipping is often the work of organised criminal unlicensed traders.
“Residents should not give them their rubbish or you don’t know where it will end up. It is not a harmless crime and the fly tippers are quite frankly disgusting immoral people.”

Hide AdA Peterborough City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of the ongoing issues in this area and are investigating how best to monitor and improve the situation.
“We are looking at all options as to how we can enforce penalties as well as working with the private landowners who are also dealing with flytipping on their land.
“A key aspect in our long term goal to prevent flytipping is that of education; we are reminding households that when someone removes their waste they need to be confident that they hold the correct waste carriers license, they have checked the company on the Environment Agency’s website and finally they have the correct documentation in place for disposal of their waste. Without these it is likely the waste will be flytipped.
