A Peterborough man has been jailed for 12 months after driving through the city centre at speeds of more than 60mph.
Christopher Gutteridge (20) of Grove Court was sentenced yesterday (June 23) at Peterborough Crown Court after pleading guilty to charges of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.
On January 17, police officers spotted a car being driven erratically on Fletton Parkway.
On attempting to stop the car, it made off at high speed and was driven dangerously throughout a 20-minute pursuit which only ended when Gutteridge turned into a dead end.
Gutteridge and his front seat passenger attempted to escape on foot but were detained after a short chase.
Gutteridge denied driving, blaming the front seat passenger who was only 15 years old.
He admitted buying the vehicle for £100 prior to the pursuit but maintained his innocence of any driving offences.
However, he later pleaded guilty to the charges.
The pursuit happened just three months after Gutteridge had been convicted of driving a car illegally and banned from driving.
Detective Constable Stewart Smith said: “Gutteridge is a repeat offender who has no regard for the law on any level.
“His driving on that day also showed how little he values the safety of other road users.
“Without a doubt, had the officers on that night not managed the incident so well, someone could have been seriously hurt.”
