The organiser of a new free community festival in Peterborough has hit out at ‘mindless idiots’ who vandalised signs advertising the event.
The Netherton Fest-For-All will take place on Saturday July 25 at The Grange, with a range of activities, stalls and performers entertaining families.
I was devastated, to think that on the site that the actual event is taking place – mindless idiots are damaging these posters.Simon Roberts
Simon Roberts, who has organised the festival, put up two signs advertising the event at the Grange last week - but within a few days the boards had been snapped in half, and graffiti scrawled on them.
Mr Roberts said: “I have worked tirelessly over the last three months organising and putting it together, trying to get financial backing and arranging musicians and attractions to come to fill the event site up and make it a great day for the families, local residents and visitors to the event.
“I have spent over £400 getting posters, flyers and advertising done to promote this free event and on Sunday while at the Grange watching my nephew play football, I noticed that two of the board advertising signs at the Grange had been smashed in half and graffiti had been written on them.
“I was devastated, to think that on the site that the actual event is taking place – mindless idiots are damaging these posters.
“With all the effort and time I have put into this to pull the community into my football club’s premises to enjoy a spectacle of music and fun, and then I get this happen – it really is heart-breaking.
“I have worked hard to try and raise about £3000 from sponsors for the event and still need a further £800 to pay for the final pieces to stage this (extra security and staffing).”
