Peterborough burglar locked up after leaving blood at the scene of the crime

Shane Gomez, 28, of no fixed address, broke into two properties in the Fletton area on November 14 and November 15 last year.

First he broke into a home in Glebe Road. Nothing was taken as the house was vacant, however, Gomez left blood at the scene.

At about 12.40am the following day, he broke into a home in Fletton Avenue. The homeowner, a man in his 40s, was asleep on the sofa when he heard breaking glass.

On entering the kitchen, the man saw Gomez’s head and shoulders as he climbed through a window.

Gomez fled the scene. However, he once again left traces of blood.

On November 26, Gomez was tracked to an address in Neptune Close, Peterborough, where he was arrested on suspicion of burglary and he was sentenced on Thursday (January 14) at Huntingdon Crown Court.

Detective Constable Tom Hunt said: “Gomez showed no regard for the owners of either house and opportunistically broke into both in order to steal property.

“Burglary is always traumatic for its victims. It is especially so, to be woken up to find a man entering your home through a smashed window.

“Tackling burglary is a key priority for Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Our ongoing initiative Operation Hunter is aimed at preventing burglary and catching those who commit burglary as quickly as possible in order to bring them to justice.”
