A person seen stealing from graves at a cemetery in Peterborough has been arrested.

The person, whose gender and age is unknown, was arrested last Monday (June 8) after being seen stealing from several graves at The Holy Trinity Church, The Village, Orton Longueville.

The person has since been released on police bail and will return to Thorpe Wood Police Station on July 10.

The police said the church has been suffering from thefts over the last few months with an unknown person stealing flowers and ornaments off graves.

PC Steph Cooper, from the HALO police team that covers Orton, said: “This has been an emotive issue for all the victims involved and appreciate it has been difficult for people to come forward and speak to us. I hope that this arrest will reassure the community.”
