Three men posing as police officers burgled the home of a 78-year-old woman.
The men knocked on the rear door of a property in St Paul’s Road, Peterborough at around 8.20pm on Saturday (October 10).
The victim unlocked the door and the men burst in wearing gloves and balaclavas.
They ordered the woman to sit in the living room while they searched cupboards and drawers.
The men made off via the back door with a purse containing cash, jewellery and keys.
Detective Constable Kevin Poole said: “This was a particularly frightening incident for the elderly victim.
“It is unlikely that police officers or those from reputable companies would knock at the back door of a property. Please be vigilant, ask for identification and if you are still unsure call the police.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
