Ameed Hussain, 28, approached a man who was getting into a vehicle in Summerfield Road on May 26 2015. Hussain, of Windmill Street, Millfield, and an accomplice, Omar Afzan, claimed to be undercover police officers investigating a robbery. They restrained the victim, stole £100 from his wallet, threatened him and demanded more money. The victim, a man in his 30s, handed over an additional £60 and left the scene.

A vehicle involved in the robbery was later linked to Hussain and he was arrested along with Afzan.

In a separate incident Hussain was approached by a man in Central Avenue in Peterborough on December 8 2015. Hussain accused the man of assaulting his sister. The victim, a man in his 40s, attempted to leave the scene but was chased by Hussain and Afzan. The victim was then assaulted, before having his mobile phone and his wallet stolen.

Hussain then drove past the victim and returned his wallet and a mobile phone. The wallet was missing a small amount of cash and the victim later realised the mobile phone was not his. The phone contained Hussain’s details and he was arrested.

Hussain pleaded guilty to one count of blackmail, but not guilty to robbery and assault. Following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court he was found guilty and was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison on Wednesday (April 27).

Omar Afzan, 27, of Granville Street in Peterborough, pleaded guilty to robbery and assault. On February 16 2016 at Peterborough Crown Court he was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

Detective Constable Kevin Poole said: “Hussain has not shown any remorse for his actions. This was a traumatic experience for the victims and I hope the sentence will provide some closure for them.”
