A 35-year-old Kurdish man from Cambridge was asleep on board a train from London Kings Cross to Peterborough on Thursday, 28 January.

As the train pulled into St Neots just after 10pm, he was woken up by a strong heavy strike to the right side of his head. When he came around he saw three white men jumping off the train and running off.

A passenger on the service claimed one of the men was responsible for hitting him and believed due to comments he had made, it was because he perceived him to be ‘foreign’.

Investigating officer PC Zak Stevens said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who was on the train at the time and who may have witnessed this incident.

“The victim was left with a sore and painful head. Everyone has the right to travel on the rail network without having to endure such violent and unprovoked behaviour, it its vital that we find the person responsible.”
