Raimondas Nyderis, (26), of Harris Street, Peterborough is alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman in the early hours of September 23 in a city car park.

Nyderis appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court today (Monday) where he did not enter a plea to one count of rape.

Wearing an orange hi-vis jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms, he listed to proceedings through a Lithuanian interpreter.

The court heard how it is alleged Nyderis met the woman on Lincoln Road, before taking her to the Mattress Man car park in Lincoln Road in a car. The attack is said to have taken place in the vehicle.

Julie Murtagh, defending, made a bail application for Nyderis - who works as a fork lift truck driver near Huntingdon - but District Judge Ken Sheraton remanded him into custody.

Judge Sheraton said: “The allegation is a very serious one.”

Nyderis will next appear at Peterborough Crown Court for a plea and trial management hearing on Monday, November 5.
