A man has been arrested following a series of arsons on the same street in the space of a month.
There have been a total of six arsons on Somerville in Werrington since November 20, with one fire gutting a ground floor flat on Saturday.
The series of blazes has left residents in the street frightened for their safety.
Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with three arsons, including one on a different street.
Tracey Tarrant, who lives on Somerville, said: We are worried because of how many fires there have been here.
“It is a respectable part of the neighbourhood, just a small cul-de-sac. You don’t expect it to happen here.
“There are a lot of children who live on the street, and it is worrying about what could happen.
“ I hope whoever is doing this gets caught by police before someone is seriously hurt or killed.”
Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, added: “There has been three near my house.
“It is usually a quiet neighbourhood, so this has been a shock. Everyone is talking about it on the street, and in the shops.”
Police have now appealed for anyone with information about any of the fires to get in touch.
A police spokesman said: “These kind of incidents can be extremely serious and sometimes life-threatening.
“We take all reports of this nature seriously and work closely with our partners within the fire service to carry out investigations to ensure offenders are prosecuted.”
Station Commander Lynn Betteridge, from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The fire service is investigating, with police, a number of incidents in the Somerville area of Werrington and if anyone has any information or has seen anything suspicious, we would urge them to contact police.”
A 26-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested on suspicion of arson relating to an incident in a stairwell in a block of flats in Somerville on December 7, arson with intent to endanger life in relation to a fire in a flat in Somerville on December 13 and arson with intent to endanger life in relation to a fire in South View, Woodston on December 12.
He has been granted bail until January 7 2015.
