A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a woman in Peterborough.
Vitautas Jokubauskas appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court charged with murdering Ramute Butkiene in Peterborough.
Jokubauskas (57) of Mayor’s Walk wore a grey tracksuit top and grey tracksuit bottoms with glasses hooked on to his top during his court hearing.
He spoke only to confirm his name date of birth and remained standing throughout.
Chair Magistrate William Symons remanded him in custody until the next hearing which will take place at Cambridge Crown Court on June 18.
The hearing will be by video link.
Mr Symons told Jokubauskas, who listened through a translator, “You are charged with one count of murder. This Magistrates’ Court has no power over you and I will send you to Crown Court in Cambridge for an initial hearing on June 18.”
The dismembered torso of mum of one Miss Butkiene (49) was found in a suitcase at an address in Mayor’s Walk on Friday (June 5).
Detectives have been searching in the city for missing body parts of the agency worker, and have made some progress in their investigation.
