A Lithuanian man accused of murdering a woman whose body parts were found in a suitcase in Peterborough appeared at the Old Bailey today (Monday).
Vytautas Jokubauskas, 57, of Mayor’s Walk, Peterborough is charged with the murder of his 42-year-old partner, Ramute Butkiene.
Ms Butkiene’s torso was discovered at a property in Mayor’s Walk, in Peterborough, on the afternoon of Friday June 5 after neighbours complained about the smell.
Other body parts have also been found in the city, but the search is still ongoing.
Jokubauskas today appeared in the dock of the Old Bailey’s court number four charged with the murder.
Wearing a grey prison-issue tracksuit he spoke only to confirm his name through an interpreter during the brief hearing.
He will next appear before the same court on 4 September for a plea and case management hearing.
Judge Mark Lucraft QC told him: ‘The next hearing of your case will be on 4 September. That hearing will be at this court when you will be produced for that hearing.
‘You will remain in custody.’
Jokubauskas is likely to face a two-week trial before 15 December at Cambridge Crown Court or the Old Bailey.
The trial date, venue and judge will be confirmed at the next hearing.
