Justice is done says pre-school

Newborough Pre-School said it had been “betrayed” by the actions of Sean White (42) who pleaded guilty to fuel fraud and theft.

The pre-school committee had to temporarily cut staff hours and needed a grace period to pay its rent after White stole about £2,000 from its charity account.

White, of Newborough, was also alleged to have purchased items for his own use, to have used the pre-school fuel card to fill up his own vehicle, and to have kept £310 awarded as compensation to the pre-school by TSB Bank.

White was given a six month prison sentence for fraud, suspended for 24 months, and four months for theft, also suspended for 24 months, with the sentences to run concurrently.

White was also ordered to pay compensation of £1,027.58 to the pre-school and take part in 12 months of supervision with the probation service.

The pre-school committee, which praised the support of the Newborough Village Hall, said: “Mr Sean White was elected into a position of trust in our charity due to the fact that he was a serving police officer and a trusted member of the community.

“Mr White has betrayed not only the trust placed upon him in this capacity, but also the power given to him, for financial gain. We remain extremely grateful that justice has been served.”

A British Transport Police spokesman said White had resigned before a misconduct hearing could take place. He added: “We expect the highest standards of conduct from all our officers and staff.”
