An elderly woman had her handbag snatched while walking in Whittlesey.

Police were called at 12.11pm after the victim, a woman in her mid-70s, and her friend were walking back from town towards Mill Road in Whittlesey.

They were on Eastgate about to cross the road opposite Inhams Road, outside a block of flats, when an unknown offender snatched the woman’s bag and ran off down Mill Road.

The offender, wearing a grey hoody over their head and dark trousers, was seen to climb over a garden fence in Mill Road.

The navy blue handbag contained the victim’s Nokia Lumia mobile phone, a pair of prescription sunglasses worth about £200, a personal diary, house keys and a purse with about £30 in it.

It is not known whether the offender was a man or woman. No arrests have been made.
