Disgruntled ex-employee who threatened shop staff given community order

A disgruntled former employee of a betting shop who threatened and threw sweets at an ex-colleague has been given a community order.

Matthew Hiblin, 42, entered a branch of Betfred in the High Street, Wisbech, on 7 February and confronted the victim about his dismissal.

Hiblin, of Falcon Road, became aggressive and started throwing sweets at the victim, a man in his 40s, striking him in the face. He also threw a plastic bottle at the man, but missed.

The victim pressed the panic alarm. When officers attended the scene Hiblin continued to be aggressive and resisted arrest.

He pleaded guilty to assault by beating and obstructing a police officer in their duty.

On Friday (May 11) at Cambridge Crown Court he was sentenced to a two year community order and a 40 day rehabilitation activity requirement
