Cambridgeshire Constabulary had been praised for its efficiency at keeping people safe and reducing crime.
HM Inspectorate of Constabulary has rated the force’s efficiency as ‘good’ and says it has a sustainable workforce model and has planned well for both the short and long-term.
According to the report released today (Tuesday, October 20) the constabulary will lose three per cent of its police officer numbers between March 31 2015 and March 31 2018.
HM Inspector of Constabulary Zoë Billingham said: “HMIC found that Cambridgeshire Constabulary is well prepared to face its future financial challenges, and we have judged the force as good.
“The constabulary has plans in place to make all the expected savings needed through to 2019. It has worked hard to minimise the impact of budget cuts on frontline policing through working jointly with other forces to save money, and an
ambitious approach to using new technology to improve police efficiency.
“The force has a good track record in reducing its costs while maintaining its police officer numbers and has plans to meet its entire anticipated future savings until 2019/20, with a lower than average reduction in police officer numbers.
“The force has demonstrated a keen commitment to working collaboratively with other police forces wherever possible, both regionally and within the tri-force alliance with Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary, to secure efficiencies and make service improvements.
“Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s potentially ground breaking approach to the use of new technology will allow mobile data to be available to all frontline staff across the three forces so that they can undertake a range of activities on-line without the need to return to a station.
“It has made impressive progress in enabling police officers to work more efficiently using the latest mobile data technology, making significantly better progress in this area than the majority of police forces in England and Wales.”
