Burglar returned to prison after found sleeping in elderly Peterborough residents' shed

The 34-year-old convict had served four months of his sentence at HMP Peterborough when he was released on probation on January 20, but he has now been re-jailed.

The man was found sleeping in a city centre property and also using drugs.

A tweet by Peterborough police read: “Man who caused distress to elderly city centre residents by using their shed to sleep in and for drug use has been returned to prison.”

A police spokesman added: “We were contacted by a member of the public on February 16 with concerns about a man sleeping rough in a shed at a city centre property.

“Officers attended the scene. A 34-year-old man was later arrested in the city centre and re-called to prison following a breach of his probation conditions.

“The man was initially released on January 20 following four months in prison for burglary.”
