Burglar jailed for five years after break-ins

A burglar who left a man with sight problems after a box was thrown at his eye has been jailed for five years.

Isaac Crouch (18) was one of two raiders at the home in Low Road, Crowland on January 30 this year.

Crouch, of Riseholm, Orton Goldhay, and his accomplice were disturbed by the male resident of the house, who was having a shower when the burglars broke in. One of the burglars threw a cardboard box at the resident’s head, before the pair ran, taking electrical items.

Peterborough Crown Court heard the victim was left with a nasty bruise on his face, and problems with his sight,which could be permanent.

Crouch also admitted his role in a conspiracy to burgle a home in Helpston Road, Ailsworth on February 2.

Crouch and a 17-year-old youth who cannot be named, were seen breaking into a conservatory.

Kristopher White (29) of Skaters Way, Peterborough, was spotted driving a car near the scene, which was later found to contain property belngong to Crouch and the 17-year-old.

On Friday Crouch was sentenced to a five year custodial sentence after he pleaded guilty to burglary, conspiracy to burgle and he asked for two other burglaries to be taken into consideration. The two other offences took place in Deeping St James and Dyke, near Bourne.

White was sentenced to 16 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to burgle.

The youth, from Peterborough was given a 32 month young offenders institute sentence. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle, and asked for 11 other offences to be taken into consideration.

The court heard the offences took place over Peterborough and near-by Lincolnshire.

One of the offences, which took place in Stilton, saw the youth steal a laptop from a nurse.

Charles Digby, prosecuting, said: “The laptop contained four years of degree work. The nurse had not backed any of the data up.”

All three defendants pleaded guilty at the first opportunity.
