Arsonists keep fire crews busy with multiple blazes started

Arsonists kept firefighters busy yesterday as three deliberate fires were started.

The first fire was started at a building in Lincoln Road, Walton, Peterborough at about 11.45am on Sunday.

Crews arrived to find a large amount of refuse well alight outside of a building. Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire, before returning to their stations by 11.35am.

Firefighters were then called to Stanground Woods, Stanground at about 7.25pm.

Firefighters extinguished a small fire in a wooded area using buckets.

And at 7.57pm, one crew from Chatteris, one crew from Manea, one crew from Ely, one crew from Cottenham, and one crew and the multistar aerial appliance from Cambridge were called to a building fire on the A142 at Mepal.

Crews arrived to find smoke and flames issuing from a two storey derelict house at Mepal Outdoor Centre. The building was well alight and the roof had partially collapsed.

Firefighters worked in sectors and used two jets to extinguish the fire.

Crews returned to their stations by 11pm. The incident was reinspected the following morning.
