The latest fire was at 6pm last night (Thursday) in Flag Fen, Eastfield.

A large amount of rubbish and garden waste had been dumped and set on fire. Hose reels were used to extinguish it and the crew returned to station by 6.50pm. The cause of the fire was deliberate.

A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We are urging residents to dispose of waste responsibly by taking it to a waste and recycling centre. Fly-tipping and setting the waste on fire is not only damaging to the local environment but it is unpleasant to the community and wastes the time of firefighters who could otherwise be working to protect their community or even attending a real emergency.” - See more at:

The warning comes just a week after the service warned residents about the dangers of arsons as part of the Peterborough Telegraph’s campaign to clear up grot spots in the city.

Anyone with information about arson in the city is asked to call Cambridgeshire police on 101.
