Armed police were called to a Peterborough jewellers on Friday after reports a crime was due to be committed.
Police officers carrying guns were on guard at Mallards Jewellers in Long Causeway in the city centre on Friday afternoon.
The area surrounding the shop was cordoned off, with multiple police cars also on scene.
Today a Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: “Information about a suspected crime due to take place at a jewellers in Long Causeway was received on Friday (October 23) and firearms officers were deployed as a precautionary measure.
“After investigation officers believe the report to have been false.”
