Community rallies around Peterborough family who lost everything in house fire as offers of help come in

A buffet curry and a pampering event are just two of the ways the people of Peterborough have shown their support for a family who lost everything in a house fire.

Mum of eight Mandi Rennie escaped her house in Brynmore, Bretton on Thursday afternoon last week (April 14) alongside three of her children, their three dogs and a hamster.

The fire is believed to have been caused when a lit incense stick fell into a basket.

An appeal was quickly launched to supply clothes, food, pet food and toiletries for Mandi, her sons (8 and 15) and daughter (12) who have stayed with family and friends.

And already the good folk of Peterborough have shown their support with offers of help coming in.

The charity Children of Adam have been in contact with Mandi - a trustee at Family Voice Peterborough - and bought toiletries and toys for the children.

And when they asked what Mandi would really like from them, she replied that she really fancied a curry. So tonight (Monday, April 18) 13 members of the family will be at Ibrahimi in Sycamore Avenue enjoying all they can eat on the house.

In addition, on Friday, April 29, a pampering event will be held at the Parkway Sports & Social Club in Maskew Avenue from 6.30-9.30pm.

Already, thanks to the excellent work of Sarah Wright and Helen Dodds, two mums who access Family Voice Peterborough, 30 stallholders have been confirmed as well as refreshments, tombola and entertainment.

Entry is £3.

People can donate to the family by ringing Sara on 07957613132, the Family Voice office on 01733 685510, or by emailing [email protected].

They can also donate at Eyrescroft Primary School in Eyrescroft, Bretton, Marshfields School in Eastern Close, Dogsthorpe, and Peteborough Family Voice in Paynels, Orton Goldhay.
