Commonwealth Day celebrated with flag raising in Peterborough

Dignitaries came together in Peterborough city centre to mark Commonwealth Day.

A flag was raised above Peterborough Town Hall in Bridge Street this morning as part of the celebrations.

The Commonwealth flag was also raised by councils across the region.

Commonwealth Day, held on the second Monday in March each year, is an opportunity for communities and organisations to promote the Commonwealth’s shared values of peace, democracy, equality and diversity.

The ceremony was attended by Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson, Mayor cllr David Sanders, deputy mayor cllr Keith Sharp and council chief executive Gillian Beasley.
