Purchaser Michael Evans was swayed by his love of real ale when he bought the Hand & Heart in Highbury Street, Millfield.

The Bristol resident stepped in despite a crowdfunding campaign of more than five months from city residents looking to preserve the pub’s future.

The campaign was led by Matthew Mace (45) of All Saints Road who said Michael is friends with the pub’s husband and wife managerial team of Paul and Susan Brammer.

He added: “It’s great we are going to retain and pub and that the owner has long-term plans for it. It’s all positive from my point of view. I met the owner on Tuesday night and he is very enthusiastic.”

Matthew said the people who had invested for the crowdfunding campaign would get their money back.

New owner Michael said: “I am very glad to have had the opportunity to purchase a classic back-street local with such an excellent reputation for real ale. Long may the Hand & Heart stand!”
