Celebrations at city mosque

Residents had the chance to learn more about Islam and see what goes on behind the scenes at one of the biggest mosques in the city at a special open day.

The Husaini Islamic Centre, in Burton Street, Peterborough, opened its doors to allow the public to see inside the building, as well as take part in an ‘Ask the Scholar’ event - giving people the chance to ask any questions they had about Islam.

There was also the chance to experience various exhibitions related to the Islamic faith.

There were also a series of other activities, such as Henna painting, Hijab styling, and an ‘Eid corner’, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadhan and the celebration of Eid that followed.

Imams Molana Kassamali and Sheikh Shahnawai Mahdavi were joined by Police ACC Naveed Malik, Peterborough City Council chief executive Gillian Beasley and other guests on the day.
