A cat has been reunited with its owner after it was found in a Cambridgeshire village five years after going missing.
Sophie was found in stables in Alconbury and was taken in by Cats Protection.
A spokesman for the charity said: “Although she was quite nervous, we managed to catch her and luckily she was microchipped. It was discovered that Sophie, had been missing since 2010!
“She was 13 years old and was last known to have been living in Milton Keynes. Unfortunately the registered phone numbers on her microchip were not in use but after a little detective work online we found a lady with the same name living in Milton Keynes.
“She was Sophie’s owner and was shocked to receive our call as she didn’t think she’d ever see her again.
“The stables who had become very fond of Sophie, kindly continued to look after her and we were able to reunite them a few days later.”
Sophie is now settling back in to life with her original owner and getting used to being a house cat once again having been out on the wilds for five years.
