Cambridgeshire police joint working helps in over 4,000 arrests and £130,000 worth of drug seizures in a year

Joint police units in our region have carried out more than 4,000 arrests, recovered drugs worth £130,000 and seized more than 900 vehicles in the past 12 months.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Joint Protective Services (JPS) comprise units including Dogs, Road Policing and Major Crime.

JPS has delivered £1.5m in savings for the three forces in 2015/16 in addition to a £4.58m underspend. JPS has projected savings of around £2.48m for 2016/17

Highlights from the last 12 months include:

* The Armed Policing Unit has made 1,226 arrests and carried out 134 pre-planned operations

* Scientific Services Unit has secured 784 identification hits from crime scenes

* The Dog Unit has assisted with 1,009 arrests, found 118 packages of drugs worth an estimated street value of £130,965, £61,690 in cash and 19 weapons

* Roads Policing Unit made 1,647 arrests, issued 28,565 Traffic Offence Reports and investigated 85 fatal, and 169 serious injury, collisions.

* Automatic Number Plate Recognition has made 516 arrests and seized 907 vehicles.

* Major Crime Unit secured nine life sentences and prison terms and minimum tariffs totalling 395 years handed down to offenders.

The JPS function comprises 546 officers and 428 staff from across the three forces.

JPS also includes Tasking; Cameras, Tickets and Collisions; Operational Planning and Support; Civil Contingencies and National Police Air Support.
