The campaign is aimed at encouraging bars, pubs and restaurants to fundraise for the hospice in Peterborough. That could be by holding special events, donating money each time a certain drink is sold or asking regulars to take on a challenge.

The first pub to officially sign up was The London Inn, in the centre of Stamford. And others have quickly followed suit including The Red Lion in Bourne and The Stone Loach in Market Deeping.

When a pub has raised £500 for the hospice they will be presented with a certificate to display and a bundle of beer mats so they can boast of their achievement to customers.

There is then the option to aim for the next target £1,000, then £1,500, £2,000 and £2,500.

Thorpe Hall Hospice fundraiser Kirsty Clipston said: “We’ve been so pleased with the response so far. Since The London Inn signed up we’ve had another dozen follow suit. If each of those pubs raises the minimum of £500 between them they’ll have paid for a hospice nurse for two months.

“Already they’re planning fundraising events with some pledging to donate a percentage of the sales of a particular drink and others dreaming up fundraising ideas. Customers are getting in on the act too – one is arranging a charity football match and another is looking to sign up for a half marathon.”
