Busy night for emergency services after two collisions on the A1 south within just over an hour of each other

Emergency services attended two road collisions which happened just over an hour of each other on the A1 south, near the Ram Jam Inn, last night (Saturday, May 21).

Firefighters from Oakham and Stamford were called to the first collision which happened just before 9.30pm. One person was trapped and another had to be extricated by the fire service. Two people had managed to release themselves before fire crews arrived and another was released by firefighters.

In the traffic that had built up from this incident there was a second collision just before 10.40pm, involving five vehicles, which led to one person being trapped.

A fire appliance from the first collision was released and sent to the second incident, along with an appliance from Melton Fire Station. An additional officer was mobilised at this point.

One person involved the second collision was released and taken to hospital by road ambulance.

No details had been given of injuries sustained in the collisions at the time of going to press.
