A Peterborough company is keeping hundreds of thousands of parents across the UK in touch with their children’s schools.

Education communication technology specialists ParentMail says that in just six months there have been more than 200,000 downloads of its new free app for parents.

Bosses of the firm, based at Litton House, in Saville Road, say they are delighted with the reception the app has been given by parents nationally.

It means parents can read school messages, make payments, book parents’ evenings or complete forms and permissions, wherever and whenever it is convenient to them.

ParentMail is used by 6,000 schools nationally to communicate to parents,

Paul Hughes, managing director, said: “We’re really excited about our latest IOS and android app and clearly parents are too.

“By making things easier for parents, we’re getting schools a better response from parents than ever before, which ultimately benefits our children.

He added: “We’re looking forward to seeing these download numbers grow even further.”

The figures show that not only are thousands of parents downloading the app but many are accessing it every day.

A spokesman for the app’s developers said: “For a free app a ratio of 30 to 40 per cent to 40 per cent of active users is high – the ParentMail app has almost 60 per cent of users actively using it daily.”

The app allows parents to access school messages on their mobile even when there is no network connection.

As all school messages are delivered inside the app it also means important school communications are no longer buried in busy personal email inboxes.

ParentMail, which employs 65 people, was the first communications and payments company to release an app to help parents deal with the many things they need to do for their children at school.

For parents who already access ParentMail on their mobile, using the app will also help preserve their data allowance.
