Tesco will no longer open stores in Whittlesey and Chatteris after falling profits.
The supermarket chain has shelved plans for a store in Station Road, Whittlesey, while a £22 million store in Chatteris will not open despite being completed.
In total, Tesco will shelve 49 new stores and shut 43 current ones.
The announcement has frustrated Fenland District Council leader John Clark who said: “We are extremely disappointed by this news. I am seeking an urgent meeting with Tesco to find out precisely what their intentions are.”
