Award-winning Peterborough-based brewery Oakham Ales has unveiled ambitious growth plans.
The brewery, in Maxwell Road, has just secured planning permission for a major expansion that will enable it to double the current annual brewing capacity to 100,000 hectolitres.
The extension will include a small tower at its centre as a new local landmark and is vital after the company recently met what it called “a production ceiling” which means further space is required to meet a continued increase in demand.
The extension will be in two sections. The taller section will have an internal height of 11 metres to accommodate 16 brewing vessels while a lower section will provide extra temperature controlled storage for bottled and cask ales.
The company, which has enjoyed year on year growth of about 25 per cent over the last five years, has also announced a number of key appointments.
Adrian Posnett, managing director, said: “With the continuing success of our core range and plans to expand our keg line-up for 2016 we wanted to ensure that all areas of the business had the additional support necessary to ensure that we are able to continue to deliver the high level of service that our customers have come to expect from us.

He said: “Despite tough competition with new breweries launching every week, I’m delighted to report that Oakham Ales has maintained steady growth in all areas.
Mr Posnett added: “I’m confident that the new appointments will help us to continue to build on that success.”
Seven recent appointments include Neil Galloway, operations manager, Dominic Leighton, national sales executive (north), Jonathan Shaw, area sales manager (London), Lindsey Faull, brewery administrator (part-time), Steve Corry, drayman, Mike Simpson, off-trade and export (part-time) and Talia Karim who began as an apprentice and will now become a full-time sales support assistant.
A further appointment of a national sales executive to cover the south is also expected to be made within the next few weeks.
The appointment of Mr Shaw as a dedicated area sales manager based in London, a new area to have direct supply from the Brewery, will further support Oakham’s current distribution routes into London in the wake of the buoyant market conditions and increasing demand for its multi award-winning range of ales, kegs and ciders there.
Oakham Ales produce full flavoured hoppy beers with its core range winning multiple awards.
Its Green Devil IPA has been named Champion Cask Ale at The International Brewing Awards 2015.
The brewery also picked up the champion title in 2013 when it last ran. The cask beer has won 15 gold medals and 19 awards in total since it was launched five years ago, including being named supreme champion at the national SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) Awards in 2012.
