Holiday giant Thomas Cook is to move its UK operations, where it employs 1,115 people, to new premises in Peterborough.
The relocation from Bretton, where the travel operator has been for 19 years, to West Point House on the Lynch Wood Business Park, was announced to staff today (Tuesday).
The company, which owns its offices in Coningsby Road, Bretton, will lease its new home from landlords Westmount Real Estate.
Salman Syed, managing director for Thomas Cook UK & Ireland, said that the company intended to complete the relocation by April next year.
He said: “As one of the largest employers in the city, I am delighted that Thomas Cook UK & Ireland will soon be moving to all-new offices in Peterborough.
“We’re really excited by this move to the Lynch Wood Business Park.
“We spend many hours at work, and it is essential that we create the right culture and environment to perform to our full potential.
“Unlike our current premises in Bretton, being located in just one building in West Point House will allow us to further improve our ways of working and achieve our goal of becoming not only the most loved business in Peterborough, but also in travel.”
Mr Syed said the firm was currently reviewing its options for the Bretton site.
The company first moved to the city – Thorpe Wood - in 1977 and has been at its current site in Bretton since 1996.
Thomas Cook together with the landlords plan to fully refurbish the building’s office and social areas over the next nine months.
The Peterborough campus will remain as the hub of the company’s UK business.
The functions based there include the UK’s corporate head office - finance, IT, HR and functions supporting the UK network of Thomas Cook and Cooperative Travel stores, and a call centre which employees about 300 people.
In addition to Peterborough, Thomas Cook also has smaller UK operational offices and contact centres in Falkirk, Egham and Altrincham as well as a 830 strong network of stores throughout the country.
