Bus routes serving Fenland towns will be saved after Cambridgeshire County Council stepped in to fund replacements.

The Council will fund replacement bus services in the short term from 1st January 2018, while a more permanent solution is found, following Stagecoach’s decision in October to withdraw two commercial routes – service 30, between Huntingdon and Ramsey, and service 35, between Huntingdon through Chatteris to March.

The timetables will remain unchanged and there will be no break in service.

This support will stay in place until at least the end of August 2018 while a long term solution is looked into.

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Chair of the Economy and Environment Committee, Councillor Ian Bates said: “When Stagecoach told us about the decision to withdraw these two local bus routes, we immediately looked at the options available to prevent our residents from the anxiety of having no bus service in the New Year.

“We have agreed to provide a short-term fix and fund replacement bus services, in their current form, so as not to reduce the service or leave people in these areas in isolation.”
