A man who burgled four homes in Chatteris has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Ramunas Matulionis (40) of Wenny Estate, Chatteris, broke into the four properties between March 12 and 31.

On March 12 he used a garden ornament to break into a property in Wood Street. When challenged by the homeowner he claimed he had been given a key and was there to help. He left with a cash tin containing £100.

On March 29 he was found standing on the doorstep of a home in St Martins Close by the homeowner. Matulionis had smashed a window to take about £600 in coins and a mobile phone.

The next day he broke into a house in The Orchards through a window and left with jewellery, an iPad, Kindle and a camera.

On March 31 he used a brick to smash a window of a property in Wenny Road and took an iPad.

Matulionis was charged with possession of cannabis and four counts of burglary after his finger prints, blood and eye witness accounts linked him to the scenes of each crime.

He pleaded guilty to all counts and was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on May 5.

Detective Constable Chris Smith said: “Matulionis showed no regard for the owners of any of the homes and opportunistically broke into them in order to steal property.

“Tackling burglary is a key priority for Cambridgeshire Constabulary. Our ongoing initiative Operation Hunter is aimed at preventing burglary and catching those who commit burglary as quickly as possible in order to bring them to justice.”
