House director Miranda Rock said: “I am horrified, as I am sure all of you are, about the dreadful quantities of litter that we see spread across the country.

“Burghley will be mustering staff for a big litter pick and we hope you will feel just as enthusiastic about marshalling troops to do the same on your streets and villages.”

The Burghley Estate will ask all employees to down tools on Friday, March 4, and working in partnership with Cummins Generator Technologies, take part in an estate wide litter pick, including the publically assessable areas of the park, the roadside verges and country lanes surrounding the parkland.

The clean will also prepare the grounds for the reopening of the house and gardens on March 19.

Burghley is calling on the whole community to get behind the campaign and organise their own clear up in their schools, streets or villages and say Happy Birthday to the Queen by providing her with a clean country.
